I have mixed feelings about this book. I love the author and always will. He is a brilliant writer. That's what kept me reading this one. But...

I am a book blogger at readlearnandshine.blogspot.co.nz and thought I would give it a try logging my progress.
This book has surprised me! I had to search more about Once and the author. I found it was only written in 2005. I would have thought it was written much earlier by the content. It was written by Morris Gleitzman, an Austrailian. This also left me a little amazed, as it felt like it was written by someone who had experienced at least some of the content. Morris Gleitzman's research has shone from the pages of this little treasure. If you want to find out more about Morris Gleeitzman's researched readings, his life, and/or his writing of this novel, and the others that make up this series, then journey to the Once (Morris Gleitzman Novel) Wiki page.
There were parts of this book that left me open mouthed considering it is a childrens book. But... it is so brilliantly written, from the perspective of Felix, a ten year old boy, that I think it is a wonderful resource for middle schoolers, especially boys.
I actually had this book packed away in a box! Can you believe it? What a waste of a good novel. I dragged it out and thought I would read it. I should have done so long ago. My son is now opening the pages and I am sure, without a doubt, he will swallow every word. He has watched and read many movies and resources on the history of the past wars. This book puts it into the perspective of a boy, rather than an adult. If you like your children reading 'living books', and you have a middle grader, then take a look at this one. You may want to read it yourself first as there are a few parts that surprised me, but the author has written this in such a way that it moved past these incidents and I followed the boy's journey rather than the happenings around him.

This is my new cookbook and I love it! It's just beautiful and so are the recipes.
I look through the pages of this book and just want to look over and over again. I have shown it to visitors who do exactly the same as they have a coffee with me. They are probably wondering why I haven't dished them up some of the treats, but start that and where will it lea?. And, I would want to hide them all away for... me.

I purchased this book a few months ago and I have to say I am impressed. I had no idea there was an encyclopedia just for reader's. Now, there is Google and Wiki but having this on my bookcase is just beautiful. Is there still a place for an encyclopedia on a bookcase....Yes! Especially one like this. It is a resource that I would encourage every home to have for their children to flick through, especially those who have children/young adults of exam age.

I was sent a message asking if I would like to read this book and the description sounded interesting so I took up the offer. I am pleased I did. Above all I am pleased I kept reading because when I first picked it up, I wasn't really in the right state of mind for reading such a book. I put it down for a few days and when I commenced....

The more I read this, the more it dragged me in. To start off with, I thought it was just someone's story. Upon reading further I found I was mistaken. Yes, it is ones journey through life and an autoimmune issue but there is more this book. What I like about this, was the way she approached everything. Each day was a struggle. She never denies this fact. But she enters a journey of relaxation, meditation and finding her inner strength and self.
I am struggling to explain this book to give it the justice it requires. It is one, I think, you will need to pick up and read to see what a journey and experience she encounters.
I came across this book and thought it would be an interesting little read. In reality it is not a book; never was a book; but rather an essay. Nothing like picking up a classic essay from time to time, and analysing how things are in comparison to today's ideas.
